Emma-Jane Guy is based in Merseyside and promotes the benefits of professional registration to engineers in North-West England, North Wales and Merseyside. She works with companies that have a long term association with the Institution, and builds relationships with new ones. By delivering presentations and conducting meetings with engineers about EngTech, IEng, CEng and Fellow applications, she supports professional development. Emma also provides strategic guidance to active and new members via the regional committees.
Emma has a degree in civil engineering from Salford University and a Masters in Sustainable Development, Energy and Management; she worked in the water and the nuclear industries as a project manager. She then moved into a more commercial role as a National Account Manager at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, where she was involved with training and membership for their top 20 major firms. During her studies and since leaving university, Emma has been a STEMNET Ambassador and sat on committees and boards with various institutions.
Her priority is to support engineers to become professionally registered. She wants to encourage them and help them discover the simplest route, and not to be baffled by jargon or daunted by the process. Helping people to develop their skills has always been a passion; Emma is a guest lecturer at Salford University, as well as a teacher trainer and assessor for swimming teachers and lifeguards.
Emma is keen to attract young people into engineering, and believes that more can be done to make the profession attractive. Emphasis on using technology, often virtual, to solve problems could help people to see engineering in a different way.
Emma is enjoying working in her local region and revisiting her Cumbrian roots. She finds her visits to the different engineering companies in the North West fascinating and exciting. She also has a passion for rescue animals with five dogs, two of whom are disabled, and three ferrets.
